Enabling young social activists to drive change in their communities | Katherine Hermens | TEDxBern

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Many of us put our childhood dreams to the side. As an adult, Katherine Hermens faced the question of staying comfortable, or working to maintain an international organization for young people that impacts over 4 million worldwide.

Katherine runs Global Changemakers, an organization that empowers young people to bring about real change in their communities. With 1,000 young social activists in 128 countries, the program benefits over 4 million people.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

  1. It’s so sad to see nobody commenting here =( I want to be an activist but it’s difficult to find like minded-people!

  2. Inspiring and wise words – we need more like you Katherine! This world needs more change makers and less screen watchers! There is a real world waiting at our doorstep that needs like minded people that are willing to do more than watch the world pass by on a screen. Thanks for the talk. 🙂

  3. Thank you for this great talk! I enjoyed it a lot. Young people know what’s up and I’m really glad that more and more are forming youth movements and get into activism. We need you!
