Cookies as a Form of Activism | Jasmine Cho | TEDxPittsburgh

Hear how baking and activism combine to tell untold stories of Asian American history through a medium that almost always attracts attention: cookies. In the process, baker and humanitarian Jasmine Cho shares her personal journey and stories that belong in the history books (and on cookies). Jasmine Cho is the Founder of Yummyholic, an online bakery specializing in custom cookies and cupcakes that taste as amazing as they look. Jasmine was recognized as a 2017 Creator of the Year by the Pittsburgh Technology Council and Creative Industries Network, a Who’s Next under 40 in Food Honoree by The Incline, and a Women & Business Honoree by Pittsburgh Magazine. Yummyholic partners with Beverly’s Birthdays and The Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh and has donated nearly 4,000 treats to these and other organizations since its inception in the fall of 2015. In addition to integrating charitable giving into her business, Jasmine uses her artful baked goods to spark conversations around creativity and cultural awareness around Asian American history and identity. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

  1. Everyone should stop watching YouTube. They are actively silencing dissenting opinions. I recommend an alternative video platform. YouTube needs to die. This is a leftist, culture wrecking platform that aims to dismantle western culture by only pushing an all inclusive objective. This comment will be removed by YouTube moderators who are opposed to free speech.

  6. Incredible how people find their life calling and find ways to use their skills for their purpose, even with cookies <3

  7. Jasmine… Your speech is very inspiring and touching. You are an amazing woman not only you created to cookie to convey a message of social justice, but also being present and persistent in what you are loving to do.

  8. Humblebrag is sometimes difficult to initially diagnose. On the surface, it appears one way, but to its core becomes a platform to self promote, rooted from entitlement and sheltered upbringings, A veiled cry for attention. Focusing on ones own plight while exhibiting a lack of perspective of the plight of countless others. Some can artfully, inclusively weave everyone’s plight together. For others, doing that would take away from how much they need to have the attention on themselves: in a humble way.

  9. So inspiring! Thank you for sharing how activism can find its way in all parts of our life
