Activism Needs Introverts | Sarah Corbett | TEDxYouthBath

Introverts could be the key to making a difference to our lives. If you think you lack the confidence to get out into the world and make an impact, watch this video.

Sarah talks about how the qualities of introverts create more effective activism, and gives some examples of the best way introverts can contribute.

Sarah Corbett grew up in an activist family and has worked as a professional campaigner for 6 years most recently with Oxfam. She started doing craftivism (craft + activism) in 2008 as a reaction to traditional aggressive or quick forms of activism. Due to demand Sarah set up the global Craftivist Collective in 2009 which now has thousands of supporters across the world taking part in her craftivism projects. This hobby has turned her into one of the leading spokespeople in the craftivism movement and regularly gives talks & lectures around the world. Sarah works with art institutions such as V&A, Southbank & National Portrait Gallery as well as charities such as Save the Children & Unicef and has also collaborated with cult jewellers Tatty Devine & Secret Cinema amongst others. 1. yay for introverts! beautiful talk, thank you! maybe the extrovert reacts while the introvert responds.

  2. Thanks Sarah… I ebb and flow from introversion to extroversion, and all of the colours in between… I appreciate your validation of the power of the introvert! 🙂

  3. Thank you for sharing the two topics that are dear to my heart, and that I don’t have to pick just one. xx

  4. Really enjoyed this talk and learning about the quiet power of craftivism. I run Chorley Charitable Crafting raising money for charities but we could so easily become craftivists 💕

  5. Ahhhhhhh I am freaking out my name is Sarah Corbett 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯😂😂😂😂😂

  6. Thanks for sharing your beautiful thoughts, Sarah. I will feel more comfortable at the toilet in the future, thinking of you 🙂, and try to participate more, instead of hiding.

  7. This is amazing. Thank you so much for this new perspective on activism in general. I never knew/realized there are quieter ways to be an activist. Or that other people also feel stressed in great masses of people or with the very upfront activism that gets portrayed a lot. Your story helps me to see what I might be able to do as a more introvert activist 🙂

  8. Thank you so much for this interesting TED Talk, it’s so inspiring. Another great youtube video on this subject is ‘What Happened to Dujuan Armstrong’ on Planet Classroom Network. This is about a mother who wants to know the truth behind her son’s mysterious death in jail.
